I feel unequipped with the proper words to express my sympathies; my thoughts are certainly with Mr. Hein's family. Though it had been some years since I'd spoken with Mr. Hein, I thought of him often over the years. In thinking back, I recognize him as one of the first sincerely passionate educators I knew. When we elementary school students were in the library, it was easy to tell that Mr. Hein truly cared about his work and the events he would relate with such loving detail. No one told a story the way he did; how rare it was for a hush of that sort to fall over a room of twenty one boisterous ten-year-olds! I will remember him always as a kind, generous, and respectful man who enjoyed sharing himself with others and guiding students towards maturity. I count him among those great teachers I had who inspire me now in my job as a teacher.

Ann and Rebecca, I am saddened at the news of Mike's passing. It was just a short time ago that a former student and I were reminiscing on how much students enjoyed listening to Mike's old-time radio tapes or an update on a Yankees or Knicks game. He will truly be missed. I hope that all the wonderful memories you have of the man who loved you so will sustain you in this time of sorrow. Wishing you peace, Pat Vanderwerff

We know that Mike was blessed to have your care and love as he battled his illness . May God grant you his peace and sustain you both in the days ahead. With Love, MIke and Carole.
